Ten (times two) Haiku Motif on It’s Alright to Ache ©
There was a moment
A moment in time long past
Time itself vanished
Nothing would ever
Be the same everything changed
Two became as one
You two together
Vowed to make a life as one
To always share love
For so long you shared
Even in those times apart
Both of you reached out
You touched each other
Across time and space and through
All hurdles all walls
A timely phone call
An annual ritual
It became habit
But one day a crash
There was a sudden moment
All came to an end
It was linked before
But the link could not survive
A death or divorce
No matter how long
Before a separation
The end is sudden
The tearing apart
Leaves you with an aching heart
How else could it be?
No phone call was made
The holidays could not be shared
Habits broken hurt
Now a part of two
Becomes one but is two
In your memory
It hurts it just aches
The reason doesn’t matter
You must accept this
You can’t stop living
So knowing you must survive
You decide to live
For you it may be
Finding another partner
Maybe something else
Concentrate on work
Volunteer to help others
Take up a pastime
Whatever you do
It will eventually
Be a new joining
Two now will be one
Just as it was before now
The aches can now fade
Although aches do fade
The memories of habits
Never go away
A treasured habit
Now impossible brings aches
It’s alright to ache
This Haiku Motif prompt is one that I set for myself to reflect on the feeling of loss that I felt when my first wife passed away (1981).
