Coveting ©

Is it possible

Many say that it is not

So why even care

One commandment that

Moses transmitted to us

Is to not covet

It’s foundational

One of the Ten Commandments

Basic to our faith

What is coveting

After all we all want things

That others possess

We know not to steal

We also know not to cheat

Somehow we still want

We can’t just erase

A desire to own it

That’s not possible

Does it need to be

A zero sum game for us

Pressure us to own

Another choice if

Supply is limited is

Accept our limits

If an object or

Service isn’t obtainable

Control is not ours

Coveting therefore

Is wanting to have control

Where control’s not ours

Coveting therefore

Is a fruitless attempt that

Leads to just failure

The way to combat

Coveting is to accept

Limits to control

Accepting limits

Brings an appreciation

For what you do have

Allowing yourself

This appreciation brings

Richness to your soul

This richness makes it

Possible to share the things

You already have

Hoarding can only

Result in frustration which

Leads to coveting

Sharing what you have

Leads to satisfaction and

Therefore happiness

Longing for something

Is not coveting if it’s

Reachable to all

Obtaining something

By means of hard work is called

Zeal not coveting

You shall not covet

A biblical commandment
