For the entire recorded history of humankind, in every culture, there has been discord. From time to time this discord has threatened humankind’s survival. This is true today.

Since the world is more intimately connected than it has ever been, humankind’s survival is more urgent, more in need of cooperative actions, empathy, original thinking, cultural maturity, and scientific solutions to arrest and ultimately reverse humankind’s path to extinction. Just in terms of one issue, global warming, estimates have been given that predict the time we have left before Earth becomes inhospitable to humankind to be between, at worst, 20 years to, at best something around 150 years. Both of these estimates are only a blink of the eye in humankind’s history.

Playing God starts with the assumption that mankind has survived. It is set 10,000 years in the future. Key issues, not just climate change, have been resolved. How they were resolved and the work that is still needed is the story.

Spoiler alert: Mankind’s survival is impossible without the involvement and cooperation of all life on Earth.

Playing God is not yet complete, but I offer to you a glimpse into a much different world that recognizes both huge and tiny miracles and, for me, holds much promise.
